English Department
Colonel By's English Department provides students with courses from grade 9 through grade 12 in a variety of streams. In addition to our required courses, we offer the Writer’s Craft elective for creative writers in Grade 12 (see the link for the Grade 12 curriculum).
We endeavor to provide an array of voices and perspectives though the texts and resources used in class. The Grade 11 course has a specific focus on Indigenous authors (see link to curriculum document). In addition to our course selections, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiences like guest speakers, the annual Stratford Trip, and clubs which enhance communication skills like the Debate Club, Colonel By News, and various writing clubs.
